24 hrs after hurricane Maria
photo diary by Valerie Moreno de Batista
Within 24 hrs after hurricane Maria. Neighbors got together and cleaned our street. Thankfully our house did NOT suffer in damage or flooding and for that we are thankful.
3 days after hurricane Maria. People stopping in random areas of the highway because that's where they found signal to communicate. Everyone was desperate trying to find out about their families.
The exit we take to our house not accesible. It is crazy to walk and drive around a country that looks vastly different then what it looked like 11 days ago.
One of many many lines. Lines for cash, lines to enter supermarkets, lines for fuel, for water etc.
This one is for gas. In this picture you can't see the cars that go for 2 or 3 blocks waiting for a small amount of gas hoping that when it's their turn, there will be fuel. This is in San Juan. We've heard that in some areas there are lines that go up to 500 people.

Someone's terrace roof. But people don't stop. Neighbors are borrowing battery powers tools and restoring their houses as best as they can.
